Ostuni, the White Town, is magic thanks to the characteristic whitewashed houses of its historic center, a tradition the inhabitants keep on. The Fifteenth century Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral dominates mid-town, with a façade sporting a 24-rays rose window of rare beauty. The visit of the historical center could be done at the beginning or at the end of your trip (suggested). Ostuni is the entry gate to the Itria Valley: as you leave the city you are immersed in the gentle hills, winding roads with ancient dry-stone walls. Once covered in woods and rocks, this valley has become a veritable garden, rich in olive trees, almond trees, figs, prickly pears and rows of vines that offer products of absolute excellence.

Driving your Twizy, you’ll reach Cisternino, a real terrace on the Itria Valley: from its public garden  you can see Lorocotondo, Martina Franca and the whole valley on the horizon. Its historical center is amazing for its stairs, narrow alleys, arches, flowered balconies and portals that enrich one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”.Driving through the labyrinth of “contrade” that embroidered the Valley you’ll arrive at Locorotondo where you will be enchanted by the shape of the town and its whiteness. Its name “round place” suggests the characteristic circular form of the town’s historic centre. Its origins date to around 1000 AD, when farmers built a number of simple cottages, including typical “cummerse” (small houses with pitched roofs), on the hilltop.

In the heart of the Murgia dei Trulli, a lovely spread of pinnacles announces Alberobello’s characteristic historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The old town centre, which has also been awarded the Touring Club of Italy’s Orange Flag, is entirely composed of trulli, traditional drystone huts whitened with quicklime and capped by conical bare-stone roofs. Crosses, pierced hearts, and zodiac signs decorate the roofs, maintaining the air of mystery that surrounds the trulli. The Rione Monti, a maze of narrow winding streets with over 1,000 trulli, is the oldest part of the town, along with the Rione Aia Piccola.
